The HUOBER BREZEL - Every single pretzel is a greeting to the individual consumer. Taste, crispness and freshness are based on solid handicraft. The art of baking instead of artificial baking aids.

Long before the expression «quality management» was fashionable, everything had been done to protect the original HUOBER aim of quality. This can be seen in the list of simple ingredients. What is not written on the packages is not used!

HUOBER BREZEL is a family business. 120 employees work in our factory and support our endeavours.

Machines help us. But the technology is dictated by the product and not the other way round. Attentiveness is a must. We work according to the motto:» Food should only be produced by human beings.»

When we started to use more and more certified organic crops, the HUOBER bakers were expected to consciously accompany this change. Just as there are high-bred animals, there are also manipulated types of grain which are grown because of one-sided economic interests. In spite of the «organic craze» many people are simply not aware of the social consequences of this development. The decision not to use «machine-friendly» regular flour has intensified our efforts to achieve good quality. The HUOBER bakers say this in a special way: «Our pretzels smile»!

The quality of our hygienic production is supported scientifically by the institute Prof. Dr. Pieldner. They taste our goods regularly and train our employees who are responsible for quality and hygiene.

When in the eighties and nineties some producers of leach pastries (Laugengebäck) vanished from the market, it seemed that traditional German snacks would disappear. But it turned out that there were other reasons for this development. While many new products were not successful on the market or were hustled out by the latest snack «innovations», the pretzels remained very popular with old and young people or at least whenever the brand kept what the pretzel promised.

Crispy «permanent pretzels» are still in. The constant popularity of leach pastries (Laugengebäck) proves that there is life in the old dog yet! In the face of an ever-increasing range of snack offers and constant new taste incentives the pretzel seems sometimes out-dated and at best nostalgic.

The Story: A CONTRIBUTION TO TRADE CULTURE

In March 2001 the largest Austrian newspaper raised a question in its weekend edition: «What is ‹European› seen from the economic point of view?»

In an age of globalisation where all technical achievements seem to be transferable, people tend to look for lasting cultural symbols. And strangely enough they find one of the key symbols of the European comprehension of economy: in the pretzel. And the banner is the photo of a girl shown with HUOBER BREZEL S. ...

We have experienced similar situations with our American business partners: «We like this kind of European pretzels». How often we could point out that it is more difficult in Europe itself to sell pretzels outside the German speaking area.

To be honest, our pretzels are different from the corresponding American bulk goods, although these articles are sometimes offered as «Bavarian pretzels» with white-blue rhombuses and the film star Paul Newman pictured on the package.

Through the commitment to controlled organically grown crops and a production without genetically manipulated ingredients HUOBER BREZEL gives an additional content and meaning to the individualised form i.e. the «European pretzel». This is possible on a basis HUOBER BREZEL has worked on for decades and hasn’t left to chance. The demand for such products has increased because of the BSE scare as well as other food scandals and has meanwhile become politically fashionable even though consumer worries are quickly dissipated in our fast moving times and invariably redirected into the mainstream of unbending progress.
